The Santa Fe Parkinson’s Disease Action Group serves the Parkinson’s Disease community in Santa Fe, Taos, and Northern New Mexico via in-person and on-line events relevant to their concerns.

In October, 2014, eight people came together in the home of became the moderator/note taker and compiled what became the first group membership list.  Karen was named one of 10 Who Made a Difference for her work in the Parkinson’s community by the Santa Fe New Mexican in 2022.

Our group outgrew the by January, 2015. Monthly meetings were then held at the Christus Holistic Wellness Center, off Zia Rd. in Santa Fe.

In 2020, the COVID epidemic necessitated yet another transition to twice-monthly Zoom meetings. These virtual events helped our members to deal with the social isolation, fear, and other challenges associated with the pandemic, in addition to providing support for Parkinson’s patients and care partners.

By the Spring of 2023, the list of members had grown substantially and the ongoing work of the group shifted to an all-volunteer Steering Committee. The membership list had outgrown a simple spreadsheet and this website was envisioned.

The Steering Committee organizes monthly Zoom meetings, plans monthly in-person “PD Clubhouse” gatherings, oversees the website and mailing lists, and marshals local support for the Parkinsons’ Foundation Moving Day Walk annual fundraiser.

The Zoom platform is provided by the Parkinson and Movement Disorder Alliance. The PD Clubhouse is hosted by Rock Steady Boxing – Santa Fe.
